Tectonic Shift.

Phillips de Pury & Company's new exhibition: Tectonic Shift: Contemporary Art from Chile from the Juan Yarur Collection is highly fascinating.

It is curated by Cecilia Brunson and the exhibition celebrates the contemporary artists working in Chile today. Apparently this new generation of contemporary artists emerged with the new Chilean democracy.

What I find so interesting is the use of everyday materials. What do you think the artists are trying to say? I think the art is highly poetic and personal.

The exhibition runs from December 4th, 2010 until January 16th, 2011 in London, England.

Hope you all had a nice holiday!

Basically, it's AWESOME.

So, please check out My Personal Boutique. It's inspired by my very own style. Let me know what you all think!! And send me suggestions. Also, if you have your own boutique, send me the link.

Happy holidays.

Glitz and Dazzle on NYE...

Splurge. Save.

The sparkles, the heels and the champagne glasses clinging... it's fun to go all out on New Year's Eve. It always amazes me however, how much we spend on the "New Year's Eve dress." Do you think it's worth it for one night? Maybe it is!?

Splurge. Save.

Whether you're partying in South Beach or having wine and cheese at home, here are some twentysomething tips:

  1. A metallic cardigan can dress up any outfit... whether it's worn over an all-black ensemble or over a red dress.
  2. Sparkles are awesome for NYE! Slip into a sequined dress with a pair of pumps.
  3. If you're wearing a black dress, dress it up with a beaded or rhinestone headband.
  4. Opting for jeans? I'm all for it! Pair them with a flouncy silver silk camisole and tan platform pumps.
  5. Just remember - if you're wearing sequins or sparkles, please keep your jewelry simple. You want a clean, fun look and not one that resembles a gipsy
What are you all doing for NYE?

Sweatpants and HEELS?!

Splurge. Save.
Fashion should be about comfort and this runway trend definitely allows fashionistas to mix comfort with something sexy. The sweatpants and heels trend seems to have it all, but does it really work off the runway?

I think this trend could work well for the twentysomethings if it's done correctly - and it isn't easy mixing casual with dressy.

Anyone have any suggestions? What do you think of the looks below?
Stay on the runway?

My opinion - don't splurge, this is going to come and go.

Otto Dix & the Rouge Cabaret.

Mysterious? Terrifying? Intriguing?
Mysterious. Terrifying. Intriguing. These are the 3 words that come to mind when I think about Otto Dix's work.

Otto Dix was a German artist haunted by his experiences during WWI, and these experiences are greatly visible in his artwork. He captured the horrific and common, from brothels to battlefields. The exhibition Rouge Cabaret is being shown at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Rouge Cabaret Exhibition) and is a North American premiere.
Realistic or absurd?
Do you find his depictions realistic?

I find his pieces so compelling. They're repulsive, yet attractive. How does Dix's work relate to our own day? What do you think he would portray today? Anyone know anything interesting about Otto Dix? I've only recently discovered him.

The CLOG.

Splurge. Save.

I was never totally sure what to make of clogs, but they keep coming back on the fashion radar and since I'm a HUGE shoe junkie, I had to give them a shot. The more I see them, the more I'm getting inspired. Seeing as clogs are 'trendy,' they're not something I'd splurge on... so, look at the ones I found on Forever21.com! Perfect for some style experimentation.
Clogs were a large part of Chanel's spring 2010 collection, but I have a feeling they're going to stick around as they're even part of Tory Burch's resort wear collection this month.

So, to make them work well, follow these Twentysomething tips:
  • Find a clog with a heel. These work better with leggings and skinny jeans. They're more flattering and work well with a casual outfit.
  • For wedge clogs, I recommend pairing them with a knee-length dress, scarf and bangles. This way you can go from a day look to an evening one easily.
Here's how some celebs are making the trend work:

Who do you think is making it work best?

What are you clog fashion tips? Do you think clogs are here to stay or should go back to the 70's?

What Really Is Contemporary Art? ART BASEL 2010.

For those of you who don't know, Art Basel is an international contemporary art exhibition held every year in both Basel, Switzerland and Miami, Florida. It is literally known as the 'Olympics' of the art world and has something for everyone.

Although I was unable to attend this year, the Art Basel Miami Beach that took place December 1st-4th was said to be extremely successful. This event is perfect for you twentysomething women. From public programming and special exhibitions, this place is not only amazing for art lovers but it is a great networking event. I suggest you all attend next year... the Oceanfront Night is always my favorite!

I wanted to discuss one particular artist with you. He was featured this year at the Art Basel Miami Beach: John Altoon. He's an American artist whose work relates to Abstract Expressionism and he is also known for his figurative works.

What I find so fascinating about Altoon is that he was diagnosed as Schizophrenic in his late 30's. He also sadly died of a heart attack at the age of 43. So, I wanted to know what you guys thought of his work? Two examples are below. Do you think his struggle with his mental illness and tragic death define his legacy over his work?

The MAXI Skirt.

Splurge. Save.

This will be a series of posts where I explore the latest fashion trends AND tell you where to get them cheap.

Although I love miniskirts, I see the appeal of the maxi skirt, yet I was not completely sure how to pull it off. But - maxi skirts are all the rage so I had to explore this trend. I think what is most appealing is the fact that they're comfortable and feminine, and can be dressed up or totally casual. Also, I think these are easy to throw on with any (or most!) items in your closet: cropped tops, tank tops, sweaters, t-shirts... you name it! But - one warning - you want to ensure that you don't look like a 'bag lady,' ie. don't pair your maxi with a flouncy top, a pouffy blouse, a sweatshirt or sneakers.

The how-to on wearing this twentysomething trend:

Day.Work.Night.
Day: Cropped tank top, hobo bag and maybe even a chunky necklace... voila!
Work: Simple, neutral colors and no loud patterns. I love the cuff as it really polishes the entire look.
Night: Blazer, belt, heels... all black everything!

Tell me what you think and give me some stylin' tips!

THIS BLOG HAD TO HAPPEN...

This blog had to happen. There are millions of blogs online; millions about fashion, millions about art, and millions about millions of things.I still felt there was a lack. I wanted to tie it all together. This blog is aimed at the twentysomething woman. It will explore issues, interests and the likes for women our age. I want it to evolve into a discussion forum, a networking hub, and more importantly, a place to explore fashion and art from OUR perspective. I'm a twentysomething year old woman. I'm independent, well-traveled and have a deep passion for fashion and art. I'm a graduate student living far from home. I love (and miss!) my family, friends and boyfriend. I love my dog. I've been through hell and back, and I want to relate to you. So enough about me...  I will also remain anonymous (for now) for a variety of reasons.

KIU (Keep it up!),
